ApHC Reiners Approved to Qualify Through NRHA Shows

Thursday, May 12, 2016 AT 08:05 PM

The Appaloosa Reining Horse Association (ApRHA), an association dedicated to the sport of Reining with registered Appaloosa horses, has received approval from their governing association, Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC), to implement a new qualifying program for the ApHC World Show, which will kick-off on September 1, 2016. The ApHC BODs vote on April 19 was overwhelmingly in favor to have this new program take effect for the 2017 ApHC World Show held in Fort Worth, Texas.

ApHC Reiners will now have the option of showing at NRHA shows in order to collect the necessary criteria to qualify for their respective divisions at the ApHC World Show.  For those Appaloosa Reiners that did not have access to Regional ApHC shows, due to logistics and geography, and therefore could not qualify for the ApHC World Show, this now affords them the opportunity to showcase their Reiners and pick up the necessary criteria for qualification.

All NRHA shows in North America are eligible for this program and all classes, with the exception of Green classes, Ride & Slide, and Youth classes, are eligible for qualifying.

“We could not be more excited for this addition to qualifying for our members,” stated  ApRHA President, Gillian Galligan.  “The ApRHA has worked long and hard in conjunction with the ApHC BODs to launch this program, ensuring that all parties – ApHC, ApRHA, and ApHC Regional Clubs – will recognize the benefit of having options.”

Steve Taylor, ApHC CEO also believes, “This program will be good for our organizations.  Specialization is changing the way shows operate and we need to make sure that we make the appropriate changes to continue moving forward towards growth and prosperity for our members and the Appaloosa breed.”

ApRHA Teams Up With Wounded Warrior Project

Thursday, December 31, 2015 AT 01:12 PM

Wadsworth, IL:  Today, ApRHA, an association dedicated to the sport of Reining with registered Appaloosa horses, delivered a check in the amount of $3,500.00, to the Wounded Warrior Project office located in Chicago, IL.  This donation was as a result of the annual ApRHA Silent Auction which is held in Ft. Worth, TX at the Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) World Show the last week in October.  The Silent Auction is in its third year, with the ApRHA donating 50% of all winning bid monies to the Wounded Warrior Project, a charity that serves veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound, co-incident to their military service on or after September 11, 2001 and their families.

When the current ApRHA Executive Board took the reins in 2012, they made it a priority to align themselves philanthropically with an organization that had similar values.  According to Gillian Galligan, ApRHA President, “The WWP core values of “Fun, Integrity, Loyalty, Innovation and Service” aligned perfectly with what we were trying to create in our own association.  Plus, we were looking for an organization where the monies would actually reach the people in need. Since the WWP relies solely on corporate sponsorships and donations such as ours, we knew our contribution would make a difference.”

The ApRHA Silent Auction continues to be a success each year with more items and more sales.  Jane Cairo, ApRHA Treasurer and manager of the Silent Auction says, “Each year we get more items donated at no charge, plus we are now selling out of everything we have.  People at the ApHC World Show really look forward to this and are glad to help out a cause such as the Wounded Warrior Project. It would be nice if we could double our donation amount in 2016.”

To donate items for the 2016 ApRHA Silent Auction, contact Jane Cairo (305) 218-2770 or to donate to the Wounded Warrior Project directly, contact Keisha Gant (630) 522-4780.

ApRHA Futurity Changes to 3-Year-Olds Only

Tuesday, July 14, 2015 AT 08:07 PM

July 14, 2015 – The ApRHA Board of Directors voted unanimously earlier this year to change the requirements for the ApRHA World Show Futurity which is held at the ApHC World Show each October in Fort Worth, Texas.  In previous years, the Futurity had both Open (L4 and L1) classes running 3-year-olds, with also a Non-Pro L4 slate, running 3-or-4-year-olds.  It was determined by the BOD that it was in the best interest of the Association for continued growth as well as to better align with NRHA guidelines, to drop the Non-Pro slate, run only the Open L4 and L1 classes, with an addition of a $1,000.00 High Scoring Non-Pro money incentive.

The Open L4 class will continue to have $5,000.00 added, with the Open L1 offering $2,500.00.  All exhibitors have the option to ride one-handed in the bridle or 2-handed in a hackamore/snaffle-bit on their 3-year-old Futurity horses.
